Welcome to Montana Mini Cattle

At Montana Mini Cattle, we specialize in raising and breeding exceptional - quality miniature livestock with the look, temperament, and charm of full - size heritage breeds. Our registered miniature Highland cattle range from 37” to 43” tall and are all at least 95% Scottish Highland - including our chondro positive and Highpark - colored bulls. This higher genetic percentage ensures our calves consistently reflect the classic Highland features: thick coats, strong conformation, and gentle, people - friendly temperaments.

We’re also proud to announce the launch of our Montana Valais program with the recent addition of our first purebred Valais Blacknose Sheep. We’ve sourced world-class genetics to build an elite foundation flock, with our first lambs expected in Spring 2027. Check back often for updates!

We’re located in the scenic Bitterroot Valley of Western Montana, and we’re passionate about providing both outstanding breeding stock and gorgeous pasture companions. Whether you’re building a herd or adding something truly special to your farm, we’d love to help.

Our Mini Breeding Bulls

White Chondro Positive Miniature Highland Bull

Ghostface Gunner

Gunner is a compact, well-balanced bull standing at just 38 inches tall. As a chondro-positive Dexter–Highland cross, his dwarf gene traces back several generations, with each successive pairing bred back to full Scottish Highlands. The result? A truly rare gem; a bull that’s nearly 100% Highland in appearance and temperament, but with the size and proportions ideal for miniature cattle programs.

He’s everything you want in a mini Highland bull: small, fluffy, strongly built, and incredibly gentle. That calm, people-friendly demeanor consistently shines through in his calves—along with his striking coat and excellent conformation.

Gunner is, quite simply, a unicorn—and he’s stamping his legacy on every calf he sires.

Miniature Dun Tipped Highpark Bull

Frozen Tundra

Tundra is one striking little bull. His unique coloring - a white body with soft dun-tipped ears - comes from a distant White Park ancestor, several generations back. Since then, Tundra’s line has been carefully bred back to pure Scottish Highlands over four generations, making him over 95% Highland in both genetics and character.

Were it not for his coloring, Tundra would be indistinguishable from a full Highland: he’s compact, strongly built, and carries a long, thick winter coat that consistently passes on to his calves.

At 42 inches fully grown and non-chondro, Tundra brings the Highland look in a reliably small frame, perfect for programs looking to add coat, structure, and that one-in-a-million look.

Silver Chondro Positive Miniature Highland Bull

Mr. Boombastic

Boomer is everything we dreamed of in a herdsire, and we’re thrilled to have retained him this past year. He’s chondro-positive and the product of more than five generations of selective breeding, making him nearly full-blooded Highland in both type and temperament.

Boomer’s pedigree is exceptional:

  • Sire: our own Ghostface Gunner, a 38” white chondro-positive Highland bull with 99% Highland genetics
  • Dam: Silver Shimmer, our stunning 41” silver Highland cow

What truly sets Boomer apart - besides his structure and lineage - is his unique coloring, including a charming white heart-shaped marking on his forehead that gives him instant personality.

Born at just 18 inches, we expect his mature height at 3 years to be around 38” inches. We’re incredibly excited to see what this special little bull contributes to our future calves. He represents the very best of what we’re working to build.

White Chondro Positive Miniature Highland Bull

Phantom

Phantom is another homegrown dream herdsire we proudly retained this year. Like his half-brother Boomer, Phantom is chondro-positive and the product of over five generations of selective breeding, making him nearly full-blooded Highland.

His pedigree speaks for itself:

  • Sire: our 38” white Highland bull, Ghostface Gunner (99% Highland, chondro-positive)
  • Dam: the elegant and powerful Silver Shimmer, our 41” silver Highland cow

Phantom brings something special to the table with his subtle, unique markings - including a white splash on his head and white rings around his hooves. These markings are starting to hide beneath his thickening Highland coat, but they’re part of what makes him stand out.

Born at just 18 inches, we expect Phantom to mature around 38 inches. Like his sire, he’s already showing signs of being calm, gentle, and easy to handle - an important trait we value in all of our breeding stock.

We’re excited to watch this little Gunner calf grow and contribute to the next generation here at Montana Mini Cattle.

White Chondro Positive Miniature Highland Bull

Chewbacca

A long time ago, in a pasture far, far away…” — Chewbacca was born!

This pint-sized powerhouse arrived on May 28, 2025, at just 17 inches tall, already rocking a luxurious Highland champagne colored coat with snowy white accents. His name fits him perfectly—he’s soft, fluffy, and impossible not to love.

Chewbacca is chondro-positive and the son of two of our finest:

  • Sire: Ghostface Gunner — our 38” white Highland bull with near full-blood genetics
  • Dam: Lorelei — our gorgeous 42” purebred white Highland cow

Destined to mature around 37 inches, Chewbacca is more than just adorable—he’s got the calm, gentle nature we prize in all our Montana Mini Cattle breeding stock. Whether he’s strolling the pasture or striking a pose for the camera, this little Wookiee calf is a star in the making.

May the fluff be with you.

We have more "little" friends too..

We’re thrilled to welcome our first three Purebred Valais Blacknose Sheep to the ranch this year! These foundation animals represent top - tier, show - quality bloodlines, and mark the beginning of our carefully planned Valais breeding program. We expect our first lambs to arrive in early 2027 and we can’t wait to share the journey with you.

Our days are also brightened by a joyful mix of mini donkeys, mini horses, Nigerian Dwarf goats, and of course, our beloved Golden Retrievers.

This fall, we’re especially excited for the arrival of our first mini donkey foals, bred from our registered Mediterranean Donkey trio: Arthur, Bailey, and Jenny. Foals are expected in late September, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome these long-eared bundles of joy to the ranch!
