Semen Sales

Limited Semen Sales — Coming in 2027

Beginning in 2027, we will once again offer a very limited number of semen straws from select individuals within our exceptional Valais Blacknose and Miniature Highland programs.

Our goal has never been to flood the industry with our genetics. We believe that truly exceptional genetics are best protected through thoughtful, intentional distribution, and our semen program will reflect that philosophy. We understand that our policies may not appeal to everyone, but we believe they are necessary to preserve the value, integrity, and long-term impact of the genetics we have worked so hard to develop.

Protecting the Value of Exceptional Genetics

Demand for high-quality semen continues to be strong. Many farms have outstanding females but may not have access to a suitable ram or bull, while others are looking to introduce genetics that simply are not available within their existing programs. Artificial insemination provides an opportunity to make those genetics accessible to a carefully selected group of breeders.

However, reproductive technology has also changed the landscape considerably.

With conventional AI, one straw generally represents one breeding opportunity, with the possibility of producing a single offspring or, in some cases, twins. Today, advanced reproductive technologies such as IVF and embryo transfer can allow genetics from a single straw to contribute to multiple embryos and potentially numerous offspring.

While these technologies have tremendous value, they also create the potential for a relatively small number of straws to produce a disproportionately large number of offspring. When exceptional genetics become too widely represented too quickly, there is a risk of oversaturation and devaluation within the market.

We are committed to avoiding that outcome without taking the hardline approach of not selling any semen to prevent it.

A Deliberately Limited Program

Our semen offerings represent some of the highest-quality genetics in our programs, and our pricing intentionally reflects that. We price our straws at the upper end of the market not simply because of the quality of the genetics, but also as a means of maintaining exclusivity and limiting distribution to breeders who are genuinely committed to producing top-tier offspring.

For the same reason, our semen program will operate under several important restrictions:

  • Limited availability: Only a small number of straws will be released from each selected sire.
  • Maximum of 3 straws per buyer: This limit applies regardless of the number of animals or breeding opportunities within a program.
  • AI use only: Our straws are intended exclusively for artificial insemination, NOT IVF.
  • No transfer or sharing: Straws may not be sold, transferred, loaned, shared, or otherwise distributed to another individual, farm, or breeding program.
  • Signed contract required: All semen sales will require a signed contract outlining the terms and conditions of purchase and use.  We will prosecute anyone that violates this contract.
  • Controlled release: We reserve the right to pause sales whenever we determine that sufficient straws have entered the marketplace and additional distribution could compromise the exclusivity of the genetics.

In other words, buying a straw does not create the right to redistribute our genetics. Our intention is to make these exceptional genetics available while remaining thoughtful about how broadly and how quickly they enter the population.

We know these policies will not be for everyone and that’s okay.

Our responsibility is not simply to sell semen. It is to protect our genetics, the breeders who invest in them, and the long-term value of the offspring they produce. We would rather place a limited number of straws into the hands of highly committed breeders than see exceptional genetics become substandard and commonplace.

Availability will be announced as individual sires are approved for the 2027 semen program.
