Pasture Needs for Mini Cows

Mini cows can thrive on much smaller acreage than full-sized cattle, which is one of the main reasons they’re so appealing as companion animals. Because cows are herd animals, they’re much happier in pairs, so ideally you’d plan on 1.5 to 2 acres for two mini cows as a minimum. Smaller pastures can work, but they require extra management — keeping the area clean and supplementing feed year-round.

On the other hand, for a small number of minis, there is such a thing as too much land. Young calves in particular may be more vulnerable to predators if they’re turned out on very large, less-supervised acreage. For two mini cows, about 5 acres is an ideal setup: large enough for healthy movement and grazing without overgrazing the roots, but still close enough to your home that you can keep watch and allow them to become comfortable around you.
